The plot of Starting As The God Of Wealth, Taming Billions Of Divine Pets is actually okay. In fact, it is quite unique for a manhua. It avoids the typical brainless slop by flipping the overused underdog trope completely on its head. Instead of grinding from absolute zero, the main character uses meta knowledge to basically buy his way into godhood right before the system locks. It is a brilliant and highly entertaining power fantasy setup.
Unfortunately, the direction and pacing are absolute garbage. The massive potential of this story is completely wasted by the current artist, which is a massive shame.
First of all, there is a total disconnect with the creature designs. The title literally promises divine pets, yet the beasts are an absolute joke. Instead of majestic or terrifying mythical creatures, we get generic, mass produced background lizards that look like copy paste assets from a budget mobile game. When a high tier summon looks like a chubby, bug eyed cartoon mascot with terrible anatomy, it completely kills the immersion and stakes of the plot.
Second, the paneling is completely flat compared to the cinematic hype we usually get in this genre. If this series had been picked up by a powerhouse like Redice Studio and blessed with a premium art style and competent visual direction, it would easily rival top tier titles like Overgeared. It would stand far above 90% of the garbage in the gaming genre. Redice knows how to use deep contrast, dynamic vertical scrolling, and glowing effects to make a scene feel epic. This artist just relies on flat colors and static, wide angle shots that drain all the momentum and make legendary encounters feel incredibly cheap.
The final verdict is that this is the ultimate tragedy of a great concept ruined by terrible execution. The plot has enough grip to keep you reading, but you will constantly be frustrated by what could have been if a competent studio was at the helm.
