Five short stories:
- Raising a Dog (Inu wo Kau)
- And Then, Caring for a Cat (Soshite Neko wo Kau)
- View of the Backyard (Niwa no Nagame)
- Three People's Days (Sannin no Hibi)
- Promised Land (Yakusoku no Chi)
The first one tells the death of an old dog, hence the title. The last one is a bit similar to a later work of the author, Kamigami no Itadaki.
Raising a Dog won the Shogakukan Manga Award (examination committee special) in 1992.
