The time is the Taisho era (1912-1926), when movies were still called "katsudo shashin" ("moving pictures," i.e. [silent films](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silent_film)). Hanae is in an arranged marriage with Koushiro, who is eight years older than her. However, this Koushiro has another name. He is the most popular benshi of his generation, Utsutsubashi Kousei.
